Xds 9 Millimeter - In today's article I will be reviewing the original Springfield XDS 9mm pistol. I have tried several of them and know very well what the gun has to offer. To be honest, I have been impressed with the gun since it was introduced at the 2013 SHOT show.

The Springfield XDS is a 9mm pistol with a polymer frame and extractor action. Introduced in 2013, it was far ahead of the best 9mm pistols on the market today.

Of course, it was not the first of its kind. Walther PPS has been on the market for several years. And the 9mm XDS followed the previously introduced .45 ACP version of the gun.

Still, the 9mm XDS paved the way for future pistols like the Smith & Wesson Shield, Glock 43, and even the Springfield Hellcat.

When I saw the XDS on display, I predicted that the compact, single-stack 9mm pistol would be popular. I was wrong—or wrong.

The gun uses seven-round, close-fitting round magazines, but also takes extended, nine-round magazines that Springfield makes. With the washer, my pinky doesn't quite fit the gun, but with the round nine, I can get a full grip.

While this is certainly acceptable, it would be nice to have a slightly longer frame to allow the shooter to fully engage the mount. Bresa did this on the BP9CC pistol and it would be great if the XDS had the same grip size. But with extended magazines, it offers flexibility for shooters who like the gun on both sides.

The handle has an aggressive texture without being abrasive. Some textures will ruin clothes, but it is safe for clothes and skin.

XDS frame is made of polymer; The slide is made of stainless steel. Magazines are metal with polymer base plates. The magazines have a hole up to each round, so you can immediately see how many rounds have been loaded into the magazine.

The main feature of this gun is that it is slim, making it suitable for most people's concealed carry handgun needs. When I used this gun, I had no doubt that this gun would work very easily in an IWB holster.

The XDS 9mm front sight uses a red fiber optic. The rear mirrors are two traditional white dots. I like the fiber optic front, but I don't like the rear mirrors. So, I've compiled a list of XDS compatible attractions here.

The 9mm XDS has the same dimensions as the .45 ACP version. The barrel is the same as the .45 but has a smaller bore, so the 9mm version is slightly heavier than the larger bore version. This means that the new guns must fit all existing XDS holsters.

As a change from the full-size XD line, the XDS's grip safety does not need to be depressed to operate the slide. This can be useful for weaker shooters who move the gun to gain more power to control the slide.

I shot this gun for the first time at Media Day at the 2013 SHOT Show. Media Day is a pre-SHOT Show event that gets new guns into the hands of writers. In addition to hanging out with the gun, I spoke with the staff at Springfield Armory and learned about the development of this gun.

The overall size of the grip frame fits my hand perfectly. It's big enough that I don't feel like I'm holding a child's toy, but it's much thinner than other polymer guns. I love the feel of this gun.

Range Report: Springfield Xde 9mm

In my review, I noted that the grip design on the XDS is aggressive enough to keep the gun from slipping out of your hand, but it's not likely to hurt you either. I was curious to see how it would play out while shooting the gun.

It turns out that I really liked the feeling of the grip. Even when shooting this little gun, I never felt like the XDS was in danger of slipping in my hand. Also, the tissues did the job without causing discomfort. I don't imagine anyone would be right to complain that the gun is too rough after a day at the range.

The gun I shot had no faults. I haven't seen anyone else in the range have issues with the XDS.

I had the pleasure of shooting this gun at media day, so I decided to send me a test gun to see up close.

Turns out it took me over a year to get the XDS for testing. After the XDS arrived, I took it out in the field to take more photos. Over the next two months I shot 2,000 rounds through the gun.

While the bulk of the ammo I go through is FMJ from Blazer, Federal Winchester, I have also unloaded self defense ammo. The gun was easy to shoot and should be familiar to anyone who has shot a Springfield XD or Glock before. The trigger pull was consistent and the reset was short and accurate.

The mirrors worked well when shooting. I love the bright and colorful contrast look, and the red fiber optics definitely do the trick.

The grip structure remains comfortable to use and I was impressed with its ability to secure the gun in my hand while shooting.

As I mentioned in the article, there were no failures in the XDS tests. Here is what I measured at my local range:

Performance is measured with aCompetition Electronics ProChrono Digital Chronograph at a distance of approximately 15? muzzle of a gun. All measurements are the average of five shots.

Springfield completely revamped the line. Until 2020, you can get a 9mm XD-S Mod.2 machine gun. Now the guns are all upgraded with optics cut on the slide and are called XD-S Mod.2 OSP.

Springfield Armory has served the shooting industry admirably with the XDS line of pistols. While the company may not have been the first to market with a slim, single-stack 9mm pistol, the company seems to have set the standard for it.

The original XDS 9mm is a comfortable self-defense pistol for serious training and small enough to carry anywhere. If you can find it at a great price, I recommend buying it. Otherwise, check out the updated Mod.2 OSP gun.
