Bermuda Military - Formed in 1965, the Royal Bermuda Regiment (RBR) is a territorial line infantry battalion, whose primary role is internal defence. In fact, this group is a local army or Army with about 600 temporary soldiers. Bermuda itself is a British Overseas Territory and is one of the few places to have its own British Army overseas. Originally equipped with the British Army's L1A1 rifle, the Mini-14 was selected by the Royal Bermuda regiment in 1983 to replace the L1A1. The 1980s saw several other British Army units move away from the L1A1, with the Falkland Islands Defense Force opting for the Steyr AUG.
This Mini-14 GB (Government Barrel) semi-automatic pistol was purchased from Ruger. The Mini-14 GB has a thick profile barrel with a flash hider and a mounting pouch for the US M7 bayonet. The Royal Bermuda Regiment issued a Mini-14 with 20 round magazines. Initially they were delivered in standard wood materials but in the early 1990s black polymer and gunpowder were purchased from Choate. Another distinctive feature of the Regiment's Mini-14s is the regental crest printed on the left side of the receiver. Less than a thousand weapons were made for the Royal Bermuda Group.
Bermuda Military
In terms of shooting the Mini-14 it is not clear what ammunition the RBR uses, although it may use the British Army's Lee-Enfield rifle. Since the gun was mounted with a Choate stock it appears that the regiment had changed the drill for the L1A1. Both guns have pistol grips, long butt-stocks and forward-firing barrels.

Mini-14 was developed in the late 1960s by L. James Sullivan and William Ruger, chambered in .223 Remington / 5.56x45mm is a gas pistol with a rotating bolt. This rifle is basically improved like the M14 with a lowered receiver and a simplified gas and bolt mechanism.
The search for a replacement weapon for Ruger began in the 2010s when the German Heckler & Koch G36 and the US M4 were both being tested. The HK G36 was chosen but financial constraints saw the British L85A2 adopted instead. In 2012 the Royal Bermuda Regiment entered into an agreement with the procurement office of the British Ministry of Defense to allow the purchase of additional equipment such as the new Multi-Terrain Pattern (MTP) uniform that replaces the Combat Soldier 95 DPM. It has announced that in the future other personal equipment including shoes, body armor and nets can also be purchased through the British logistics system. This close cooperation could pave the way for the adoption of the L85A2s RBR configuration. Rifles, along with 1,600 magazines and over 400 ACOGs were delivered to the unit. News reports at the time said the value of the donated property was $1.4 million. Conversion to the L85A2 began in 2015 and was completed in early 2016.
The gun appears to have HK standard L85A2 plastic handguards rather than the 2009 A2 configuration that saw the Daniel Defense mount carried over. The SUSAT sight has been replaced by the ACOG, which is often seen in what is known as the Standard Entry Theater (or TES) with upgraded weapons. The Bermuda SA80 has a picatinny rail riser for mounting an optic, this was originally developed for the British edition L85A2s. In British service, ACOG was purchased earlier for the use of special forces and later as an urgent operational requirement.
Above the ACOG is a red CQB sight, the ACOG has now been replaced in British service by the ELCAN Spectre. The ACOGs issued to the Royal Bermuda Regiment probably came from several stores. We can see in some photos released by the group that the ACOGs are marked 'IW-LSW' indicating that they can be combined with the British Army's L85 Personal Weapon and L86 Light Support Weapon.

Reports indicate that 400 rifles were transferred along with 1,600 magazines, while the British government handed over more than 400 ACOGs and red dots. News reports at the time said the value of the donated property was $1.4 million.
Bermuda L85A2 has a rather unique configuration. The weapon seems to have a combination of original L85A1 handguards and standard HK L85A2 plastic handguards designed for durability. It was reported that the old, first hand guards were replaced at the unit level when they were broken.
The new handguard system can be distinguished by its four links instead of two in its upper part, which allows access to the gas system, and by a small slope in front of the hand guard compared to the first.

Many associate the A2 configuration with Daniel's security attack, but this was only presented as an urgent need for operations in Afghanistan in 2009.

Interestingly, the rifles of the Royal Bermuda Regiments all appear to have been issued with Trijicon ACOGs, which were previously commonly seen in what became known as the Theater Entry Standard (or TES) L85A2 rifle upgrade. These optics replaced the 4x SUSAT (Sight Unit Small Arms, Trilux) and in 2011 were replaced by ELCANSpecterOS 4 × Lightweight Day Sights (LDS). TES represents a new standard for preparing guns for early service rather than being a new iteration of the weapon itself.
The Bermuda rifle has a Picatinny rail for mounting optics on a NATO-spec (non-1913 Pictatinny) rifle rail, this was originally developed for British TES L85A2s. In British service ACOG was purchased first for the use of special forces and later as an urgent operational requirement where it was combined with L85A2s, L86A2s and L110 FN Minimi.

Above the ACOG is CQB with a red dot, this is probably the first Shield Mini Sight optical reflex fitted to an eye shield. ACOGs issued to the Royal Bermuda Regiment were probably from many stores.

We can see from some photos released by the group that the ACOGs are labeled 'IW-LSW' indicating that they were purchased to join the British Army's L85 and L86 Light Support Weapons.
Some British Overseas Forces, such as the Royal Gibraltar Regiment or the Falkland Islands Defense Force, also have the L85A2 but their configuration often uses the older SUSAT or the newer ELCAN Specters suggesting that The Royal Bermuda Regiment's configuration is quite unique.
